I come from the other side of the fence entirely. All my life I have been surrounded by large, growing, active family, and have considered a time of aloneness to be desired. When I do manage that, which is not often I covet every minute of it. Too bad there is never a happy medium and that we can't swap now and then.

Yes I know the feeling , but you have changed, what you really need is a friend who feels the same way. There are thousands of lonely folk around, it is just that one needs to be careful. If I felt the same way I would join a club with projects that interest one. Sadly one can feel lonely with the wrong partner , so caution is always needed.

It is tough isn't it. Going from working and having family and being the Center of the home and so much coming and going. One thinks Oh for a few minutes for myself. Then...just like that it all changes and being alone can be very lonely.
