Perhaps that question could be asked of anyone visiting a large city, and lately, any city! Perhaps it's been an issue since there have been cities... It's better enjoyed without stabbings, of course!

I think part of it is just thinking that it cannot happen to oneself, that it can only happen to those one does not know.
