Love tulips; had them at the other house. Will plant some bulbs in the Fall, hopefully. And your poem was a delight, tasty too!

Re:Pat

Probably slugs or snails Pat although squirrels will nibble most flowers not Geraniums.

So I put those in the Cemetery .

Re: adnohr

When you retire maybe you will poddle around and make a ,little raised garden even if you only grow rhubarb for sentimental reasons. Remember folk died in the first war from eating rhubarb leaves. Oh! go on have a Mars bar.

Things do seem to go that way at times.

I had a few little red-orange tulips perking their heads at the front

retaining wall, but something nips them before they really open fully - don't know if it's the pesky squirrels or the paper boy on his bike, brushing against them as he throws the neighbor's copy.

My complete lack of green thumb means I can only enjoy gardens of others. Tulips are very pretty, as are the wildflowers scattered around here by my favourite gardener, Mom Nature. Chocolate tears, huh?

Re: Naut

Well it would be a shame to throw the flowers away I didn't think of it until I read the article. I suppose that is why they die eventually in gardens.

CCT

I have on occasion driven up to Ottawa for the annual Tulip Festival - a symphony of colour... Oh, and I do like the poem...

I didn't know that about cutting the dead heads.  I should have known that back in the days I had a house and yard and gardens and had tulips.  Now I only look at other's tulips.  Son #2 didn't know it either.  His tulips have gradually gone by the wayside but his hostas and roses are always strong.

Re: Kabu

Well in Holland for the tulip festival they cut thousands, you see they have to or the bulbs weaken ,but don't cut them if you don't want too until the flower heads are dead  do not cut the the leaves. Just remember tulips can cause skin irritation so if you are delicate wear gloves, Now she stamps her foot and says I am not cutting the dead heads .

 Tulips be brave today

Braver than yesterday indeed

Your pretty face faded away

And you must make seed,

My tulips got covered over with a snow blizzard so we will see this year if they are any good. I don't cut any of my flowers. The garden is grown by me to be an outdoors Summer attraction. I take pictures so that I can enjoy them in the Winter.
