Excellent poem! Ol' Tom's mistake: naming what he must known was to be his food...

Would I tell a lady a lie? Probably, but this what my mother told me. She was a little girl in a village. To gather around a pig killing was a big event. After the kill the pig was burnt off with straw and very often prepared on the site, If one was lucky one caught one of the pig's trotters believing it had been cooked I assume, Remember RP this was in the First World War.
