Yes Naut they treated them like one of the family it was a bit barbaric ; but on the other hand it was better than being treated cruelly,

Would I tell a lady a lie? Probably, but this what my mother told me. She was a little girl in a village. To gather around a pig killing was a big event. After the kill the pig was burnt off with straw  and very often prepared on the site, If one was lucky one caught one of the pig's trotters believing it had been cooked I assume, Remember RP this was in the First World War.
