One large nursery chain here gives away ladybugs once a year, naively thinking they will stick around for a go-round in the aphid cafeteria!

I know what you mean about the frogs! One one occasion, when I had a lot of aphids, I bought a box of ladybugs (coccinellidae), naively thinking they would stick around and feast on them! They had other ideas, and in less than an hour they had all taken off, leaving my aphids undisturbed. So I sprayed them...And I guess the Smallholder found out there's more to life than raising pigs...
