Kudos to you our Pat. me thinks that it is your patience and gentle redirecting that made her realize that she had to fit in or not enjoy.
I was thinking about your subject and isn't it sad. I cannot think of one teacher that I could relate to, wasn't either terrified of or despised their ways of "teaching".

I think what made her feel safe with this group was her experience the previous week, her first time in the group. (there's a post about that one from a week or so ago)
