Re: Your poem here strikes me with a minor key...

Well it was hard to write Ciel. Perhaps it is too shadowy.

Re: FS

And it can be annoying FS having just spent £12 on some special seeds and they have not come up.

Your poem here strikes me with a minor key...

I like the shadows in it.

A whole lot goes into gardening...The unknown can lead to a lot of different concerns and fears.

Re:Naut

Well Naut I hope those you buy are OK I would always wash any fruit or veg, although I am immune to the bugs around here I think, as I am always sampling stuff straight from the plant.

Re: Rpresta

Well RP. That is the problem one does not know what happens through the night in the garden. I think your worms are caterpillars  we have a similiar species , they are a hard to spot I usually give a plant a sharp knock if I see damage and hopefully the culprit falls down and can be dealt with.

Re: Taps

Taps it is called Blossom end rot .the problem being the plants dry out and then have to deal with too much water. It happens in a greenhouse if one does not water the plants regularly.

I don't know what it was called, but one summer, after I had worked so hard in my garden, all of my beautiful ripe tomatoes had something I called black bottom rot.  I would pick a pretty one, but when I turned it over, it wasn't worth having.

My family's been growing tomatoes since my memory began! We all continued the tradition of our heritage. But here, in this area, there are critters that eat them in the dead of night, or day for that matter. And then there are those fat green things, tomato worms... Would love to try again. One gets spoiled.

Breakkfact?

There's a new word for you - you're allowed to use it without citing the source...

CCT

I did grow tomatoes for a few years - just so I could have a fresh tomato for breakkfact in the summer! Then I discovered that these nasty green flies that feed on dog crap liked to sun themselves on my tomatoes - that's when I gave up...
