Re:TAPS

I see more clearly now. A most difficult job you had. I understand your curiousity, given your background with nursing and hospice care. My bet is that you won't be satisfied until you understand and see the dynamic of these "Cafes" for yourself! Personally, I would not want to go to one. LOL!

I'll be sure to check it out on the internet. I don't fear death for my own person, but I'm wondering if it will make things any easier for those left behind.

I would rather go to a meeting that sounded normal. Of course no one is normal so it is not very likely. I think Son 1 is right about this.

I know there's a certain fascination with death - just look at

the current programming on TV & the popular movies. But this post brings a whole new thing to me. I agree with your son - if it's avoidable, let's stay the heck away. I'm not ready to research the great unknown any time soon, although "always at my back I hear, time's winged chariot hovering near."

I myself have never been to a Death Cafe meeting. Sounds interesting.

Re: RPresta

My interest is piqued because it has been over ten years now since I retired from nursing and I was quite involved with hospice care nurses both with patients and with my own family member.  It seems that a good percentage of these "Death Cafes" are facilitated by Hospice.  Just curious how effective they are at what they hope to do.

Oh. my, I have never heard of such a thing! I personally would wonder what types of people would be at such a gathering. After having the Reaper visit 3 times in a week, I say, enough! I have also had the Reaper's breath upon my back a few times, and only wish for all to enjoy and savor each moment we have! But each person is different! Would be interested to learn how you felt there, if decide to go!

Re: Nautikos

Just have to say, I completely agree with you on this.

I hadn't heard of these, either, but am not surprised given the popularity of the whole skull thing for several years now in decorating, clothing, etc....plus the fact that there is almost a social need to start conditioning people to quit viewing death so negatively - since medical benefits and procedures are obviously headed toward being reduced/eliminated! LOL!  Personally, I was lucky enough to be introduced to death as just a normal part of life, at a very young age....I've always been very comfortable talking about death....and then, when I had a very close call myself, I had nothing but a very peaceful feeling.

I hadn't heard of those - and I completely agree with Son #1! He's not only a poet, but also sane, and clearly prefers to stay that way...

Cake and tea sound interesting..:) Had to look Death Cafes up.

Practical and interactive; death doesn't have to be so lonely seeming. I used to not want to listen to my Mom discuss her final arrangements but since my close brush with death, I've given her feedback and even made my own arrangements. It's not something I try to avoid talking or thinking about anymore.
