Nautikos

Interesting post that is just too long for me to digest and comment to with any degree of intelligence.

GM, Re: Abrogation and beyond

The 'We' in this translation of the original Arabic is merely an adoption of the royal 'We' quite common in Europe as late as the 19th century. It does not mean that anyone but al Lah is supposed to be speaking here... As for the rest - I'm getting to it...

A lot of great comments you addressed there. Very interesting to read about how communities (rural, suburban/urban) vary in how they affect people's religious beliefs.

Abrogation and beyond

Nautikos--  thanks for providing that crucial verse in the Koran: None of Our revelations do We abrogate or cause to be forgotten, but We substitute something better or similar: Knowest thou not that Allah Hath power over all things? 2:106

This not only shows the insanity of Islam,  regarding the changing of God's rulings,  as you pointed out,  but also it's hypocritical inconsistency.  Muslims condemn Christians for "having three gods",  the familiar Trinity,  the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  They say this is polytheism,  it is pagan.  I think it is the best way to describe God,  as he presented himself to the Jews.  Yet,  despite all the Muslim condemnation of that,  here we have a crucial verse of the Koran that depicts Allah speaking not in the singular,  but in the plural "WE" and "OUR".  So how do the emphatically  "monotheist"  Muslims explain this?

Of course,  they cannot explain it,  because it is illogical,  irrational and  insane,   but we can understand and condemn it as the absolute evil that it is.

You do not believe in gods or spirits,  but if they exist,  if you humor the believers for just a moment,  it is very logical that these superior beings would be divided into opposing philosophies,  just as humanity is.  It seems obvious to me that the Christian philosophy is generally on the side of "good" or "love" or "helping",  and the Islamist philosophy is generally on the side of "evil" or "dominating" or "predatory".  This is true,  despite the contradictory crimes or virtues of the individual followers,  which go against the moral signature of their respective religion.

So it seems obvious to me that these diametrically opposed philosophies did not come from the same metaphysical source.  One is from the true source of goodness,  and the other is from the true source of evil.  One is God,  and the other is the enemy of God.  I give you one guess,  which is which,  LOL.

Well Naut I hold the opinion that , no that's about Brexit and I don't know what others are thinking only Arthur. Humans are funny critters, we can like someone and yet feel we could kick their ass at the same time. No not you , I do not become emotionally disturbed, well only by exciting women who habitually frequent your blog. We really cannot judge other folk by their opinions I suppose because we have not endured the same experiences. Thank you to your reply I know it takes too long to answer folk as a rule. Although it does become frustrating when one leaves a comment after comment and is always greeted with silence on one's own blog. You do give fair exchanges which is all that is required. I don't mind if it is critical but it shows the person to whom one is commenting is still alive. Now I must put the trash out on the Pavement damn ! Sorry the Sidewalk.

I always enjoy your posts. They address heavy topics with a lightness of manner, are informative with both substance and reference material (and visual aids when necessary), and in general, leave a smile on my face. Or two smiles. In other words, you don't give the impression that you take yourself so seriously that one should, could or would become uncomfortable reading or commenting. Bravo!

Therefore, I am glad you answered CCT's comment, for I was sorely tempted to say what you did; but for one thing, it wasn't my place, and for another, it wasn't my place. LOL. Also glad to read your answers to the other comments.

Thank you, Naut. Your posts draw some of the most interesting

ideas I come across, and I was a follower of the philosopher George Carlin...

Yikes indeed. A long post. I do think that lots of people find politics, religion and abortion are such torches to light a blaze and having been burned black one is cautious to broach these topics.

You definitely come up with some interesting stuff.  Interesting is as interesting does....and it seems that everyone is doing something different from everyone else.
