Re: Re:
I love this comment! It is absolutely spot-on about religious beliefs....and the same can be said for political persuasions. I also love the 'computer rage'!LOL!

This was definitely one of your best posts in this area ever! Of course, you are so good at explaining because you are an educator.....which is why I nag you to do more of this type of writing versus the cut and paste of articles. You see the difference in response; and it's because this is the kind of information/discussion/explaining/arguing/whatever that is needed in this area. Bravo!

Re:
Well not being an intellectual it make me wonder if I should keep my mouth shut and feel like a fool. My only assessment of religion through my limited experience is that if ones parents believe the world was made by a God with blue eyes. 75% of the offspring with believe it forever. The other 20% will eventually have doubts and let me see 5% will be converted to something else. I did notice that a self drive car crashed into a bus today the computers are now attacking each other. Computer rage.

You made me put a concrete base on my concept of "faith."
I am a hopeful agnostic; which to me means I want to believe there's a creator who set the world, the universe, the science and all - in motion. But the human-built organizations aimed at serving this force seem dangerously flawed. Still, I know there's something: it talks to me, alerts me to danger, shows me the beauty and joy that's possible. Seems like I'm never totally alone.

Great series here! But my goodness, you are firing posts out quicker than my semi-auto 9mm. A couple of posts back, you alluded to the fact that Mohammed (and/or whoever else dictated/wrote the Koran) became more and more hostile and prone to killing as time went on..... that their doctrine pretty much changed, in regards to treatment of unbelievers. This is alluded to by other writers as the Law of Abrogation, (Naskh in Arabic) which I have mentioned in my posts. This is supposedly a "law" that Muslim scholars came up with to explain contradictory verses in the Koran, or contradictory verses between the Koran and Hadiths. According the the Wikipedia entry on "Naskh":
"Although neither the Quran, nor the sayings of Muhammad – who claimed to have received it from God and delivered it – state which verses stand abrogated or which abrogate others, yet the principle of abrogation of an older verse by a new verse of Quran, or within the Hadiths became a well established principle in Sharia at least by the 9th century."
This so-called abrogation is a very simple idea..... the later verses supersede or cancel out the earlier verses. Very simple and very deadly, because the later verses call for more killing. This is just the opposite of the progression in the Bible, which is generally going from more killing to less killing to no killing.
I am curious if, from your readings and studies, you have perhaps any idea or details about this Islamic law of abrogation, and its timing from the life of Mohammed to its "well-established" status a couple of hundred years later. And is it still going on, with ISIS and their bloody orgy of killing. Are they doing any additional abrogating, or just following the murderous abrogating done a thousand years ago.

Well now, religion is a debatable subject for some. However, I was taught as a child that we will be saved according to our own beliefs. I guess that means if one is aligned with whomever our judge is. My judge is God. Even though I am a Theologian I usually do not discuss the Bible and politics. Whenever I speak of the Bible it is regarding the scriptural aspect of it.

Naut (may I call you Naut?), my comment was precisely meant to convey exactly what you said that I understand! LOL! Good one.
Yes, I think of the Medici; I also think of so many other instances like that. I think of Neanderthals, and what really happened to them, and I think linearly to the of peoples of today. Yes, I think, but I don't know, as it is all often beyond the scope of my emotional and/or intellectual comprehension. Growing up in an Italian family setting has elevated my level of reasonable discussion (as we are always reasonable - or else), and my arguing ability, which, of course, is rarely used - LOL) to something close to a finely honed art! But, being a peaceful family, we much prefer explanation, which fosters understanding, which in turn, results in peace. Until the next fight! LOL!

Naut, I must say that as far as I am concerned, this is one of your best explaining and answering posts ever. At the same time it makes me laugh that you do this so easily, and you do it so easily because you have put so much time and effort and interest into studying the subject matter. You definitely got me back on track. I now remember why I asked "Why?"

Much to think about here. While it is not important to agree or disagree, it is always important to think about all aspects of any issue. This is written with both intelligence and thought.

Hmnnn well you are lucky that between the rotten cold and the snow falls the broom has had to be kept locked away...Faith is something I cannot discuss satisfactory. It is within and sounds crazy or holier than everyone else when brought into argument. and now I think like Taps, I have lost sight of what this is all about. Sigh!
