It takes a great deal of talent and a person with real compassion in their heart to tell a really sad story but keep the sadness to a minimum. To uplift the reader with the comminuty spirit that was alive and well and the way that man/child joined everyone into family. Well done Taps. well done indeed.

Well it would have been lovely to have ended peacefully, but I am afraid the weak suffer more than the strong. Makes one feel sad.

Re: Naut
They arrested and charged four guys, but I really can't remember what happened after that. There was a space of time between the beating and his death, and last i remember they were having trouble proving it was the beating that actually caused his heart attack.

I fully concur with RP - a story inducing both smiles and tears...And, like Pat, I feel this story, which you have told so well, really deserves a wider audience...But I also have a question: Did they catch the bastards who killed Kendall?

Oh, thank you for this story, Taps! This one ought to be
printed in "Chicken Soup for the Soul." Have you thought about submitting it?

OMG, fabulous story! Both a tear-jerker and a feel-good concurrently! Impossible to do, but you did it! BTW, you didn't tell a little white lie; it was probably true that there was some trash in the parking lot! And you managed to control a difficult situation in an effective and gentle manner. One of my favorite lines in your story of Kendall, oddly to me, comes from his distant cousin addressing the people at his funeral, when she tell all, You Were God's hands." How true that seems!
