If you were at the lady's house it is proper etiquette for her to ask her guests to have a seat. All of her guests should be seated before she sits. If there are not enough seats then she should stand or bring additional chairs. Your daughter should have let you sit first. The hostess should be last.

Well you don't see many stand when a woman enters a house or wherever but Perhaps they would feel embarrassed in these so call enlightened times. However your daughter should have said come on Mum you sit here and given you her chair. You never see the young birds feed the old ones though.

sad isn't it. My Grandchildren are well brought up by today's standards but they can come inside the house and I may as well not be there. They don't even say hello.
