I love TV and can give it up for long periods but would never want to give it up forever....I tend to rotate between spurts of watching and reading obsessively.  It's interesting the bargains we humans make...and the things we make them for...with the powers that be, as we perceive them to be.  I believe it is in your nature to bargain, it begins early and then the fear of reprisal naturally follows.  I don't know what it says about those of us who have never been moved to bargain.

I cannot imagine myself giving up television because it has been around my entire life...Our childhood remains with us forever.

Re: Re: People should not exact promises from children,

If only all adults were rational and well-balanced, and knew how to give love and be loved... How to encourage a child rather than steer and herd and drag...

Re: Bend the twig (child) in the way that it should go, and it will not

That's right Pat like little ducks following the mother.

Bend the twig (child) in the way that it should go, and it will not

depart from it. That's why churches want to get hold of little kids and start them learning the Bible verses when they're barely old enough to read. It works with some, backfires with others. As Mama used to say, "The devil can quote scripture."

Sounds similar to the guilt that organized religion spreads on everyone

even children, but that's just my opinion. You describe the loneliness of feeling guilt and-or unease over something you couldn't/can't control very well, C C T...

People should not exact promises from children,

exactly because they are small, and adults are big and scary and have their own agendas.
