Well, thank goodness for the birds!  I was afraid you were getting off into Science too much there! LOL! (sorry, couldn't resist!)

Well now you have explained it Naut. How ever did they navigate in the olden days I expect the old sea dogs might have gleaned tales from their forebears. I just wondered did anyone do a bit of line fishing for a change of diet.

Yes, the mast, I thought so from the shadow of the "sharks' teeth," but was merely musing in the previous post that it looked like it could be the mast! Now for the birds! They look like they could be egrets, but I know not if they migrate, and don't feel like studying the possible migration patterns of egrets tonight! LOL. Still locating "stuff" to unpack. Also, I am barely back on the grid! whew!

I knew it was partly the mast that cast the shadow and I thought the short ropes attaching sail to mast but wasn't sure. The bird photo is excellent.

This entry reminds me how wonderful the wods port and starboard are. Otherwise, it would be very complicatin to explain direction and to talk of the science behind what you were seeing.

I can't be expected to know NW By East or whatever, I come from down Under where everything is much easier to read!  And those poor birds. They must have been exhausted disoriented like that. I don't suppose a girl would be popular if she asked the men to shut the lights off when the birds were migrating!
