Well he must have thought it through if he made it legal, so then ame obviously means something to him. Why don't you ask him and if you don't want him to know you're curious tell him a couple of Blogit members are wondering...

As to Polar Bear swimming - not for me! As to g-nephew's name change, if that's all it would take to make the world happy, then we should all go for it! Still, one wonders...

I have always thought Polar Bear swimmers and snow swimmers were crazy...I saw a video of a whole group of folks, women included, frolicking in a snow covered parking lot somewhere and turned my heating pad on to warm up, just watching! I'm too lazy to get hung up on the name thing..."a rose by any other...." is my feeling. Besides, the hyphenated named folks create so dang much trouble for the rest of us...and now they marry each other - what do they name their kids? Jeeeeeze! To me, it's just another sign of where things started getting weird with family identity, but...zip it, lock it, put it in my pocket. Creating a name of your very own is an entirely different thing, I think, and as long as a person is an adult, I support the right to do it....I'm sure your nephew has an interesting story in choosing it

His name is rather odd now so I hope it was worth the trouble.

I know Taps A teacher I used to hate, always called me Bartlutt instead of Bartlett.

I have not gone swimming in the snow either. I was never much on snow angels and that sort of thing, even when I was a kid.
You have me curious about his name change.

I think we all come to a point in life where we take control of
defining ourselves, I know I'm not the same person I was at 15 - at least 95% of the time. There are times I revert to a certain level of teen-age resentment when someone condescends to me. Although it no longer bugs me when some 20-something calls me honey or dear...

Swimming in the snow? Even we Canadians are not that crazy - at least I've never met anyone who even thought of that - and how are they actually doing it? Getting into their bikinis and trunks and just sort of flail away? And the name change - maybe he wants to write a book and is trying out marketable pseudonymns...

I got sick of not using my own nwame after numb nuts i went back to my own name and Oh it was a lot of work. Having to prove divorce and marriage and on and on and such a paper trail...so then I meet our Wiley and I adore this guy but there was just no way for me to change my name yet again. This is a really old fashioned closed thinking area, I don't think some people aprove. I could not care less.
