I used to play a little chess with my cousin Richard, might have won
one game with his guidance - I think he let me win that one. I was 18 at the time, with so many other mistakes to make that I didn't play much after we lost touch. Did you see the episode of "Big Bang Theory" where Sheldon creates a 3-dimensional game of chess and add a couple extra pieces to the board? One was "snake." If you land on its square you're "bitten" and will die in 2 more moves unless you can get to the "old woman" who cures you, absorbs the snake venom which multiplies her powers above that of the queen.

I admire people who can multi-task and do it right! I only ever played chess once in my life, but I used to be a whiz at checkers!

This entry is just chock full of goodies to munch on! I think an interest in chess must go along with the science/physics thing....nada/nil/nope/none/zip/zilch/zero interest - now, crosswords, or any other word challenge I would spend hours on, and some card games....but never bridge. I simply never liked games with others that involved what I considered 'work' or 'effort' that wasn't interesting to me....words were, numbers weren't other than straightening, neatening them...so I enjoyed bookkeeping and basic math but not strategy. I could always talk and work a ten-key at the same time, inputting columns of numbers from balance sheets and carrying on a conversation with someone - it's a learned skill, like your friend said.....the brain adjusts. And that boat is long!! I wasn't picturing it so long from the other photos of the interiors; one always forgets how 'economical' everything has to be inside - and then I recall cruise showers

That is how I feel, too, with games that I am unfamiliar with and games that I am familiar with. I figure that I am going to win the unfamiliar one at least once but rarely do, and I do not expect to lose what is familiar to me.

I am not so good at doing two things at once unless I am in the kitchen where cooking is mindless for me. I did it all my life I guess. but tapping out Morse code and speaking to some one else well that is pretty good.
The ship is longer than I thought and yes those flood lights would have brought the squid to the desired depth to catch them.

Well, was it more fun on the chessboard or onboard the ship? As to having a conversation while inputting Morse code, is that like keyboarding (I must use the current word for typing) while talking on the phone? I think that's a skill set some of us may have developed, somewhat
