That was a great way to get the heat repair guy out. It reminds me of when I switched from heating oil to natural gas. It was a cold October 2010, and I was way back on the list. Dad called up and said I had a 90 year old grandfather, who he worried would catch penumonia. They were there within two days.

Re: drafts and floorboards...

I think we are fairly safe Ciel ,but even you would not want to pull up all the floorboards to replace heating pipes. Check it out when you buy a place.

Re:Kabu

I hope you are not replying to my old grandfather. He is embalmed standing in the corner.

Re: CCT

Corrosion Naut. Goodness I hope all the pipes are not getting to that stage. Arthur said build yourself a new house. Little rabbit. It was the first hard frost so it was good digging and Archie was in a bad mood, so I thought he could work his problems out by exercising.

Re: Pat

Well I used to give a bottle of wine in such circumstances. I wondered once if it might not be wise as they might drink and drive. Some of these firms do not allow the workers to accept any form of gifts. I don't think it is because they care, but probably because they think the workers might respond in some way.

Re: Krisles

Well K. I know it is expensive, but I think it is better to have cover on some things. Yes I reward when appropriate.

It is always so nice to get someone who takes pride in their work; I always give them plenty of praise, and hope they are being utilized for training!  Maintenance issues are just the worst!  I fear I have one of the heating units acting up.....

How wonderful you got a workman who takes pride in good work.

It's too bad you didn't have some of your beautiful flowers blooming to thank him...

But how did that hole get there? And being able to dig bean trenches in January seem miraculous to a Canadian...

Now don't go looking for more trouble Grandpa Moses. I do like your cunning attitude to get around the working folk.

drafts and floorboards...

I heard of someone in England, possibly Cornwall, years ago, who after years of being bothered by a little draft pulled up the floorboards under their rocking chair and discovered an exceedingly deep mine shaft.

So... broken pipes?  pphtt!
