That is great how you all learned about one another's cultures...I remember you writing about Shogi and look forward to rereading it again.

re todays post and your comment Naut...it was one of those nails in the coffin of my first marriage. I have no idea what made me think about it. Maybe because Wiley and all you guys here are so different.

Love your writing even as my mind deals with the knowledge the Japanese killed my oldest brother Mike.I admire your ability to absorb and honour another culture to write so wonderfully about it.

Japanese B-action movies and monster movies....where the dialogue is dubbed in and is a couple of beats behind the lips moving - they are absolutely hysterical and used to be a favorite entertainment in my grass smoking days....and many of the later ones are based on graphic novels of the type you are talking about, the newer versions of which the kids have been so crazy about with all the games and graphics, etc. The characters have never been aesthetically pleasing to me - but I loved the corny old stuff....based on cartoonish versions of folks like your fishmaster.

I like the photo, your fishmaster seems a very solid-looking guy. Thank you so much for writing about this rare experience... (rare in my experience, anyhow. Not so rare among the fishing fleets.

Fishmaster looks like a party waiting to happen! Whoa! BTW, would you please translate the Japanese words here for all? They aren't working on Google Translator! I may have to ask my next door neighbor, who is Japanese!

Maybe the Canadian condition of you being on board made him feel as though he had Lost Face as they say. Something they cannot forgive or forget.
PS Thank you for picking me up about fresh produce not being taxed. I thought it was. I am totally confused between two countries taxes and GST etc. But what I do like in Australia is the price in front of me includes the tax so I know I will be paying that price. Here i am not sure if I am even sleeping the right way up or not.
