They have never been in contact again.  He wonders about how things turned out for her.  She would be 50 now.

It's a wonderful story

and I hope that the buying of the carabao accomplished Evelyn's freedom from prostitution. Did he ever try to find out what happened after he left?

Re:

Thank you for reading it.  I've always loved the details of that story that he has shared with me many times.  He was fascinated by the way they lived.

This has been such a great series, please do more.  And, Mark obviously models the compassion he witnessed his parents show in and out of his home for it to be such a part of his character....he does his mother proud, and I'm sure you have many stories of all your sons' adventures - and your own.

I am presuming that the new young Carabao was bought so that Evelyn could be freed from her life as a prostitute.

One can't judge her family. We don't know what desperation that sort of poverty brings.

I am not sure as to now, but just a few years ago the poorest there would sell one ot two children into prostitution so that the rest of the family could survive. i never felt that it was my place to judge.

Re: Naut

Yes, Mark has always figured that when he dies it will be something from his Navy years that causes it.  As Signalman always on the top "Captain's Deck"  He was often in front of EMF where he could feel the "zinging" in his bones and teeth.  He has already been through cataracts probably caused by that, and has lost most of his teeth.  He would be horrified to know that I told anyone this, so we won't mention it to him.

What a wonderful and very touching story! And your Son #! is a very special man! Oh, and of course I also read a lot about his ship, the Blue Ridge - fascinating as well! What is not so pleasant is that apparently she has an Asbestos problem, which she seems to share with many naval vessels...
