Nautikos

I can't really add anything to what everyone else has said......except to say, I will forever and always remember and think of that imagery....the breathing sea, because of a memory I have of the first time I was out of sight of land, and experienced the sight myself....I remember having that thought, fantasizing a big chest stretched out across the earth....

You make the reader feel as though one is with you while the fishing is going on.

Konnichiwa Gaijin San.
I asked Son once, when he was Signalman on the USS Blue Ridge, if any seagulls ever pooped on the deck.  He thought I was pretty stupid for asking.

Re: Nautikos

So eloquently written. I love a breathing sea and a curling wake. The colored lights most likely would have distracted me to the point where I the dissection of the squids' (plural, I take it) innards may have not taken place that night!

going from nothing to do to extreme frantic working conditions. It must have been an amazing adventure.

Wow!! When all this was going on I wondered how you could be so calm. Now I see, you and not I, knew what was happening. Neat!

I can't help thinking the lights and motion, the heightened mood and all

sounds very much like a party. I suppose the fishermen were too busy to take note of the colors and "art" of the big picture, but there must be a reason they're willing to leave hearth and home and spend so much time at sea.

i suppose a heavy catch means a likely bonus for the crew. Amazing really how things change. I would imagine that there is quite a bit of rivalry between other squid trawlers or what ever the definition is. I suppose you still savour squid occasionally. Good Blog.
