I was shocked when I read the notice of Alan Rickman dying and the picture of him with all that white hair. I thought it was another fake celebrity death.

Myself, I'm not much driven by mass anything. My sadness is just the selfish consideration that these particular people will no longer entertain me with new things. I add Sir Terry Pratchett to that list.
There is the element, at least in the case of Leonard Nimoy, that he was significant to my adolescence, and I once wrote to him, and he wrote back.

Perhaps ironically it is a sadness that lies dormant and manifests when triggered by mass emotion. Probably would not affect a deaf person.

I can't help myself it seems, but everytime I watch a movie on TV or an old program, I find myself saying, "That one's dead, and that one's dead and gone, and that one's no longer among the living, and that one is no longer above the sod...."
