I have some well and hard earned advice for your daughter. My husband has been on disability for decades now with that exact same diagnosis, along with adjunct issues that have popped up off and on over the years we've dealth with - a bout of alcoholism, severe depression, OCD, etc - all of which are coping mechanisms brought on when his meds for the underlying dx aren't right, or so the shrinks always tell me. He's been in and out of the hospital several times over his life. I wouldn't want to count the books I've read on the subject, the discussions I've had with docs, other caregivers and even other patients at the hospitals he's been in. Depending on the severity of his disease, of course...only your daughter can decide that for herself but she must do that soon if she wants to save her own and her son's sanity she needs to make a decision right now or she will be on a merry-go-round that constantly spins.....she must be very firm that he stays on his meds. None of this back and forth to your house...she must treat him like a drunk....it's all or nothing...on or she's out of the marriage. He is capable of making a decision and don't let him try to fool her that he's not. That is the advice of one who didn't get that advice in time and hung in there on the merry-go-round too long. Also, there is very good and sound evidence that exercise is highly beneficial to both condisions, if you can get him to do it.

What a worry for you, sadly a lot of folk take pills and when they feel better they stop and have to the slow process of recovery again. What a trial for your daughter, I hope she can cope.

I'm glad he got them.
In answer to your title question, probably not. Problems just seem to run right into each other and only the need is different. My Dad always told me, "a hundred years from now none of us will know the difference."
