I learned to eat with chopsticks while in Japan. Needless to say, I also lost weight during that trip. I'm enjoying this story too...and remembering bits and pieces of it as we go along. I always read my favorite books at least twice!

I have always found encounters with Japanese Americans very

cordial and educational. They seem so happy when some clod-hopper American acts like she's got a bit of fetchin' up and treats them with respect and friendship.

I continue to love this!  I also love my sticks...I keep a large glass stein on my countertop, filled with a bunch I ordered last year after I read it was good for controlling your eating when you eat in front of the TV (which I do!) if you ate with chopsticks.  I have formed the habit of eating almost everything with them; I just grab them out of habit now, although I'm still not always as good as I would like to be as I tend to get cramps in my hand if I have been mousing all day!

Your sea journeys should be a book, marvelous as I found previously when you wrote. I crossed the Atlantic twice!!!

As interesting as this is, it is difficult for me to keep the thoughts of past seasicknesses out of my mind.  I'm so glad I'm on dry land.

That is great that they included you. It can be tough going into a new situation when one does not know people, let alone not being part of the same culture.

Now you've baited us as we wait for more! Squid, and pickled; dunno about that. I like calamari though, just not for breakfast.

Wow, I tried once with chop sticks but I think I used them more like spoon. Quite a feat on a ship like that I would imagine. I don't know if I could have enjoyed squid. We must wait and see what kind of clanger you dropped.

I got serious at eating with chop sticks when the three year old of a friend in Singapore was picking up rice one grain at a time and popping it into her little mouth.

ps...re my yesterdays post...you are naughty. The broom is coming your way.LOL
