Interesting post though I don't agree with all you say, there is a lot of very good meat in this write.
It does seem that the lowest common denominator in any given situation seems to be where the bar is set. 15 minutes seems to be the length of time that any one can spend on anything. New toys for everyone all the time. New people to worship, new clothes to wear. Rush rush rush.

I agree. Many people deny the influence that of which all media has. Slasher films and action movies are part of the reason why I feel we are having all of these shootings.
