Nautikos

Well, charcoal is supposed to help with digestion is/was an old belief...so the burned biscuits would make sense for queasy stomachs - they were probably not sea sick, of course, but perhaps had bad food off and on?  Anyway,I would imagine they might be easier to eat if soaked in water?  I don't know, just guessing....  You'll have to give it a try next time you sign up for a stint! LOL!

In her last days, that's pretty much what my old grandma lived on.  It's all she enjoyed eating.

Well Naut I know an old fellow, before he went to school his mother fed him with a bowl of bread and warm water. We called it sops. Bread and tea were a bit of a delicacy. I suppose something is better than nothing. Never heard of your word though.

Naut

I do not know this. I am almost sure that all old ideas and beliefs are not better. Yuck!
