Re: Re: Radicalized, Indeed

This whole comment is as Radical as one can become. I love you and have read you a long time, I have prayed for you for a long time. Now I am just sorry for you. It will be far too late when you see that you are wrong.

Re: Radicalized, Indeed

I know Alinsky well - okay, not personally, LOL... I have his Rules for Radicals kicking around somewhere...However, I see it as less dangerous than Islam, just as I see Naziism as less dangerous, simply because 'divinely' ordained, 'sacred' beliefs are always more dangerous than secular ones. Secular beliefs can be defeated by Reason, religious beliefs are impervious to Reason, unless you chuck out the whole thing...

Radicalized, Indeed

Nautikos-- Your excellent analysis of 'radicalized', going back to the roots of a belief, works well with Islam and other religions.  However, in the philosophical / political / non-religious realm, it is even more dangerous.

Have you heard of Saul Alinsky?  He was a fellow atheist (to you, not me) who has had a devastating effect on our society.  He was based in Chicago, and two devout students of his philosophy are......  Barack Hussein Obama and Hillary Clinton.  Alinsky proudly called himself a Radical, with a capital R.  He wrote a book called "Rules for Radicals". Hillary Clinton wrote her Masters or PhD thesis on him.  I believe Alinsky offered Hillary a job.  Obama taught Alinsky's Radical principles when Obama was a community organizer in Chicago.

Basically, Alinsky's Radicals discard all trappings of morality or ethics when dealing with their policital enemies.  They lie about everything, misrepresent themselves, attack their opponents with lies, smears, lawsuits, criminal charges,  tax audits...... whatever it takes to bring their enemies down.

When you think about it,  it is the political version of Islam..... but it is Atheist.

Nautikos

I had not ever thought about the root of the word, and so that is very interesting.  And, once more....although you never like it when I do this, I'm going to draw parallels to Christianity because those are the waters I was raised in.  We are polite in public and call them Fundamentalists, and range in  radicalness  in terms of whether they handle snakes or delve deeply into the Old Testament during their services or simply are very specific about interpreting Scripture....in private, some might call them 'nuts' or 'psychos'....or worse.  But, when they go off the reservation, we say they are in cults.  The big difference is....it's hard to find much cutting off of heads, etc., in the Bible unless you just really, really search and twist, or totally fabricate, which was often done during the Crusades.

.....My point is, when I hear of Muslims being "radicalized", I look at it as being like someone raised Christian all their life suddenly joining a cult of extreme Fundamentalist snake handlers who are using the religion I was raised with in a different way than the way I was using it before.  And...and here's the key....I would never see a cult member, who fell for the 'program', as someone who wasn't ready and open to be programmed for one reason or the other.

I am enjoying GM's entries as well. He is very wise, and I am looking forward to his entries every day.

Yes, what is going on in Islam is definitely something deeper than being "brainwashed." It all goes back to the Reformation Islam needs that you have discussed.

It is seems like our society is being reduced to a bunch of empty buzzwords that do not get to the essence of the problem.

As a historian, you might be interested in my latest post over in Religion and Spirituality, about Pearl Harbor Day:

Not sure if that link will work, just thought I would give it a try for grins.

I would very much enjoy your comment over there, and I pleasantly await it.

Happy Trails, whereever your path may lead.

WOW

Nautikos,  I am truly grateful for this special mention in your post!!  I will try to live up to it. I have been hesitant to post much about Islam in the past, on other websites, even though I have studied Islam, on my own, outside any school.  I am hesitant because of the short life span of those opponents of Islam who become publicly known and identified. But with the body count of victims of Islam rising quickly worldwide, it is time to add my voice, at least here on Blogit.

You mention the "aggressive core teachings" of Islam. I can lend a hand there. I just posted about the "Verses of Violence" to be found in the Koran. I will follow with many more verses of the Hadith, in my next post. We are linked here with an amazing thread of synchronicity, which probably has a metaphysical element. We may be guided by unseen forces to synchronize our efforts.

You refer to Muslim terrorists as "Allah's soldiers". Then later you refer to "the vast army of Muslim clergy".  These are very astute observations from a non-military man, such as you. As a former Army officer, I recognize the entire religion of Islam as a military operation.

Armies are not all combat soldiers. Every warrior on the battleground requires dozens of support personnel, to provide them with everything they need to fight, including not just money, but moral support. In the military, we call this the chain of logistics. The religion of Islam is set up as a fighting machine, with the jihadists at the tip of the spear, and all of the so-called "peaceful" Muslims as their logistics support. It is the most effectively militarized religion in history. I doubt that anyone could design a more effective one, if they wanted to.

I understand the issue, but I don't have the desire to discuss it.  I'd rather ignore it even though I know that won't do any good either.  Rhetoric, in this case, seems to be lacking in solving this horrible problem.
