The SHEEP and the DOGS

Those of us who own guns have a special sacred mission, to protect those who don't own guns.....  Even whey they throw stones at us.  We are a different breed.  Similar to the sheep dogs who protect the sheep herds.  The sheep are scared of the dogs, who could kill them and eat them in a flash.  But the dogs don't kill and eat them..... the dogs protect the sheep as their own.  The sheep are not killed and eaten by the wolves,  but they do not truly appreciate this.  Instead,  the sheep bleat in fear and annoyance,  while the dogs herd them and protect them.

Re: Naut, Krisles, Justi

I know you all agree on this subject, but I am not interested in shooting anyone, so there's no need for me to have a gun or learn to handle one.  It does not bother me if each of you have one (or several) but this post was simply about what I personally feel about guns for myself.

I concur with Justi and Krisles! Here in Canada we have far stricter gun controls than you have in the U.S., but that doesn't prevent the perps from getting them! And as we can see from recent developments (e.g. San Bernardino) it's no longer merely a matter of protecting yourself against ordinary criminals...

Perhaps you could learn to throw hand grenades Taps. We would get thrown in jail if we carried a gun.

I myself have never fired a gun. It is not something that I am into.

I used to go target shooting with a boyfriend when I was in

High School, but I don't think I could bring myself to shoot someone if I had a weapon now. With my luck the perp would take it away from me and I'd be the one with a bullet hole. I have a son with a carry permit, justified in light of what he does and where he goes on his job, but I'll pass...

Re: Justi

I really am glad that you feel safer with a gun.  I pray you never have reason to shoot one of them first.  Especially a child.  I would rather put my trust in the Lord than in weapons.

I echo Justi's remarks...there certainly are lots of areas around here that you wouldn't want to depend on the police alone.  I was on the rifle team for one year in college and really enjoyed it...the precision of targets....but I never had a gun until I took over this house where I have inherited some.  I have on my list for next year to get all of them cleaned and operational....and to get myself operational again....I haven't decided whether to get licensed or not.  I'm going to do that because of the amount of time I spend in the Dallas area each year......and the way I intend to continue traveling for some time, yet.  I don't think I want to do that much longer without protection in the car.  Times are not getting better, Betty.....I wouldn't mess with it in your circumstance, either.  But they live in the country....they'll be safer.

I do understand how you feel but try to understand how we feel. I am not a fear monger nor a lunatic. I got my first gun at agd 12. I have lots of evidence of ill use of guns, not by those who are law abiding people but who aren't. I would not allow a person to shoot another person just for the Hell of it as these lunatics today are doing if I had the opportunity to shoot one of them first. Especially a child. Open carry is the best possible way to cut gun deaths and put criminal cowards in their place. I don't think your neices children are in any danger. That couple sounds like good responsible people. You have always lived in the city where police were your protectors, I didn't most of my youth. We are just different but that does not make either of us wrong.
