I suppose Julia was quite young, one can feel the poor girls pain. Times must have been extremely hard for a family to undertake such a voyage. Mirrors of it today though. The grandfather does not look like he would be open to any other option once his mind was made up. Of course we do not know offhand the conditions that prevailed .Your poem compliments the story
