I LOVE Aplets and Cotlets in all their many manifestations!
There is a similar candy made from wine must--the leavings after stomping the juice out--gelled around a core of nutmeats.
Another excellent candy from the Northwest comes in a pink can, and is chocolate-covered toffee rolled in nuts... Almond Roca! OOoh, so not on my menu these days!

Re: Kabu
Son #2 and DIL were glad I shared the article with them. Son says he will take care of it even though he thinks the little critter is darling.

Re: Katray2
Like I said to adnohr, I think they would make a holiday table pretty, stacked on a special candy dish.

Re: adnohr
I think they would make pretty Christmas goodies. They are colorful with sugar sparkles and would be lit up with a candle or two.

I'll be on the internet getting more information - not for the Armadillos - we don't have them here (I hope!) but for the Aplets and Cotlets. They sound very interesting!

Hm, I would be a bit suspicious if anyone sent me a box of candy kisses or whatever they are called. At least I would have tried one out on Son1 first. Funny old critter I wonder if the Indians used to eat them, I think a hedgehog would be easier to prepare. In case you wonder knock a hedge hog on the head prepare it and roll it in clay and sit it in the ashes of the camp fire. I have never tried it ,but my Dad told me once and he was a bit embarrassed but he was friendly once with a gypsy girl and we ribbed him until he admitted he had tasted hedgehog it was like pork. Of course the gypsies today would not know what one looked like, it is a job to tell a gypsy from anyone else.

I used to see Aplets and Cotlets in Seattle, bought them once in a
while. I love the Armenians - especially the writer, William Saroyan...
