There is a lot more to this than traceable stats. George and I both have college degrees and we do little better than our counter parts who do not. We work with a lot of elderly, addicted people and in both cases more are in financial lack than those who are not. A major difference in the South is that there are lots of false stories about the differences in the black and white cultures in the South but little of it is real. It is very difficult for the white population to get help without an inordinate amount of proof, documentation and all sorts of stuff they often do not have. The ervice workers know they will have to come up with all they need if they are checked. On the other side of the coin to deny a black or Hispanic may cost them their jobs. True or not I can not prove; however, I see it all the time being carried out that way. Blacks and Hispanics can go into the offices and come out fixed to the hilt. We know these facts we help them get their records together, get jobs and get financial help. The most help we get is Christian help from the many churches. They hold the same requirements for all colors, nationalities and whatever you are involved in, still it is difficult for them to get federal help for the white portion of the people. Many middle aged and above have had good jobs or businesses in the past, that have gone by the wayside since the election of Obama. To open a small business now because of regulations is all but impossible. He has been horrible for the white population in the South.

It's been interesting to see thsi study reported on all the news shows and talk shows the last few days....the different takes and attitudes the reports have taken. I agree totally with you that these are all symptoms that are being bandied about. I visualize a big black hole in our cultural identity that has eroded and these people are falling into the vacuum - tht is the image that comes into my mind when I think about what has happened in my country the last few decades...and that hole is a rot caused by too much of a lot that I just deleted because it was turning into a post and I realized maybe it was all just almost inevitable....but, perhaps that just my mood.
