Victoria's ego getting in the way - it's enough to demean the purpose of the workshop if  let be. I understand your reluctance too - sometimes we just don't feel like dealing with the hassle. Wondering what the outcome will be....

I cannot imagine thinking that writing does not need revising. I would say I am the opposite. I feel like there is always something to with each work.

I remember when we had our writer's group that there was this one couple.  She was very religious.  And she insisted on giving everybody's story a religious take on it.  Her husband would meander here and there and never really say anything.  He also would write a poem on a piece of napkin or envelope ... something to that nature...We tried to let her know as discreetly as we could but she kept doing...they eventually left the group.

We had another woman who wrote and published a book for youngsters.  Almost every sentence began with I or had the word I in it.  I mentioned that to her.  She quit coming after that.

I feel like you do about one person making corrections in here, but I realize I should be grateful even if comments are made with a lofty attitude demeaning to the writer  and it's best for me to be grateful even if the revisionist is a pompous ass.

I know sometimes I write something and I wonder 'is that write, joke. No honestly when one cannot think if it is were or was, sort of thing when writing, and I cannot think of an example at this moment. I usually just change the sentence.

No true writer gets the huff over editing, they welcome it. Some elderly citizens really need to be told that they are just Grumpy old Farts; and that they are spoiling something that should be first of all fun, for every one else. You can tell "herself' that I Kabu, have said so!!!!

No one should have to deal with ugly confrontations when they are already giving of themselves freely....but, people will be people, and it does happen...way too much.

Re: Naut...

I messed up. Apparently my bit about writers who hate revision, etc. - meant to apply to my own experiences in the classroom 30 years ago - seemed to refer to the current situation. We don't see one another's writing in the memoir class - it's only read aloud, and only rough draft stage. Baby steps.  My hesitation stems from wanting to avoid the confrontations inherent in the workshop process.

Pat

I can understand your reluctance! I do find it surprising that the demands for 'Warmth & Fuzziness' and the belief all 'Judgment' is an affront to the 'Sacred Self', 'Human Dignity' and 'Morality' have taken hold even among 'mature' senior citizens...
