For me, the answer is no. You have to see how the service goes and go from there in deciding how to trust a clergyman.

Lot of interesting trivia in this post. You brought back lots of Sunday memories to me, both from my own childhood, the the days of my own family times with husband and sons. Sunday has always been a special day.
