I’m not sure that I was clear about what a head spinning debate I was having with myself about this issue and the conflict it was causing for me.

I don’t question, killing a snake love. That’s fine by me. Certainly, it'd scare me, killing me!

I would choose the birds. But your topic here’s the Rat Snake that I’ve never seen one. That I’m a bird love influenced my total interpretation. But your point’s well taken. And it makes for an interesting blog. What’s the problem love? Excellent.

Well what about mice eating the bird food K. I think I would be more worried about your cats catching the baby birds. If that kind of snake is a pest I would think of ways to stop them climbing up the trees. You really should not have told your neighbor, one has to be a bit cunning. I can't trap the mice because my brother won't let me kill a wasp. If I had thought he snake was going to have the birds eggs I would not have tried to appease your conscience. Sadly other birds take the eggs as well. I watched a Jack daw a little dove was trying to drive it away ,but it just pushed through the thorn bush and came out with an egg. I wonder actually if there is a sonic device that would keep snakes away from the area.  If I had snakes I would look for one.

viva -la -difference or whatever. Your house, your bird sanctuary your life and nature is cruel.

By the way,,,,our friend Nautikos told me once that my meat grows on a tree. Since he is a prof. and all, I have to accept what he says.

It looks like you have come up with a good plan. When I make major decisions, I often have conflicting feelings, but once I choose a path, I am fine.

Honey it is your house, you had an uninvited guest and it is your choice to do with it as you choose. Me, the only good snake is a dead snake. Animals were given skills to attack and eat other animals so I have no problem with it. Same with a human being who comes into my house uninvited better be fast in getting out if I see them in time to get to a gun. That is my right, I will deal with the wrong and right of it which I think I have. One more point I don't think it is any of my business to make a judgement on what you do or did with the snake. Have a blessed day.

You have presented a convincing case; having once argued for the snake's exile rather than its execution, I now concede that your position is the correct one, and I declare gladly that my career as a rat snake advocate has come to an end...

You could have had a good dinner with it--roasted rat snake and scrambled eggs or something.  Winking smile   I looked up ratsnake.  Didn't much like what I saw, especially for a house pet.
