I seem to remember that folks didn't wash much - or not as much -
in those days as they did after the advent of water closets and indoor showers/tubs that were connected to plumbing. (something is rotten in Denmark)

Elizabeth 1st was thought of as somewhat eccentric because she had two baths a year....however they did wash or were washed by their attendants and their hair was brushed washed and oiled sometimes.
of course most of the ordinary people never washed...Phew it must have been a sniffy World.
Oh and did you know that when Napoleon was coming home from a campaign he would write to Josephine and tell her NOT to wash before he returned. (Double Phew!!!)

Was she still an infant Naut? If not perhaps she was more sensuously satisfying to his highness in such times of stress. I think that is the colour of Uncle Albert' s long Johns.
