Just being silly, Naut.  LOL.  Just being silly.
You are a very good science teacher.

Your lessons on physics are becoming part of my understanding of

how this universe works. Yesterday on NPR's "Ted Radio Hour" I heard a speaker talk about how we learn, how infants in the womb begin to learn the mother's language, how little babies learn by trial and error - the scientific method - as part of their play, and how educators would do well to just put the materials where kids can find it and let 'em discover things for themselves. I have to admit I've thought at times the classroom and the school's bureaucracy get in the way of meaningful learning.

I remember learning about the sunlight we are getting is eight minutes old. I also remember being told some of the stars we see may have burned out a long time ago.

Hello Sir, I am Chumpet, I am taking over a few of CCs comments.

I found your missive very interesting, I agree with all you proclaimed.

By the time I read your comment it was in the past.

Unless of course it was transmitted through a worm hole. Lol.

Well, I just don't know what to say.....I really don't.  I so appreciate your zeal and expertise.  I come from a long line of teachers, have nothing but respect for the profession and .....of course, the Universe and all its wonders is a never ending source of mystery and fascination for one and all....wait! No, it's not!  That's my problem, it just ISN'T particularly interesting to me for whatever reason....there's something missing in me.  I love the BEAUTY of it...the wonder of the BEAUTY of it and the wonder that it all works, but I have absolutely no specific curiosity or interest in HOW it does.  And, I think that is because I do not think we are meant to have all the answers, that we ever will have all the answers or that we would know what to do with them if we stumbled across them.

and when I look at a starry, starry, night and yes I do know about light years and that many of these planets may be already dead...I get this tiny less than an ant feeling. I feel hopelessly small and insignificant. It is beautiful yes, but so vast and so beyond my little brain that tells me it cannot go on for ever for everything in my life is finite.
