Character is about the first most important thing in a story.
Plot and plausibility are the next most important things. But if a character bores or irritates me, or if I just can't care about him/her/them, the story is a fail with me, no matter how good the rest of it is. I would not have remained engaged long with this one.

Not one for me I am afraid....BUT, It is really difficult to find a new way to write or to finish a book, everything really has been done, but sometimes it is better to take an old theme and bring it into a different time and place. Like my play...It was the old romeo and Juliet story altered and updated to the 2000 Olympic games in Sydney.
You are an extremely good editor and critic and I always trust your judgment

Pat
You've described it well - but does it 'grab' me? I'm afraid not...

You did a really interesting job reporting on this book. Makes me think I should read it.

The trouble is Pat most things have already been exploited . Twenty years ago one might have written something that was a good seller. One man made a small fortune by selling a book on Amazon for a meagre sum, it was bought because folk thought it was a bargain, I guess they couldn't read inside the cover in those days.

Rose sounds quite the complex character..
but that is the reality of human nature so from that view, I can see the story working as far as keeping a reader's attention. Nice critique!
