When I read a story like this, my mind really gets going, back to the time when I was young and my dad tried to help people who really needed it, but would take nothing from anyone.  There still are a few people like that, even in this day and age.

those boys probably never faced the consequences of what they did....I can't imagine what goes through her mind every time a car slows to offer her a ride

You write such beautiful story pictures.

I have this scenario in my mind that rich Daddy's paid into an annuity to keep her from pressing charges all those years ago. A pittance now in our inflated times but enough for her to get by. The one meal a week is her only luxury, a day when she doesn't worry about preparing a hot meal for herself.
