oh taps, i can't imagine losing 12 babies, poor thing was in poor health, but also probably dieing of a broken heart.

and Naut may be interested that there is too much TB in Australia, brought in much of it by illegal Migrants...those that come by the boats where they bypass the rigid health checks and stuff.....

What virtually uninterrupted heartbreak, losing all these children...And having that many in so short a span of years is also almost unimaginable for us today...BTW, while not much is being said about it, 'consumption' (TB) is apparently making a comeback in parts of Europe and North America where it had been eradicated...

When we gripe and groan these days,
we are not thinking of what life was like 150 years ago.
My sister brought me some family papers that have lain in my parents' safe deposit box for years. Among them were some military records of several of the men-folk, the oldest being of Civil War era, then a marriage certificate from the next generation. Fascinating and wonderful to connect with a past my father just about never spoke of.
