So interesting. I am loving every word that you write. I didn't know that you could die that quick from a rattle snake bits. I love snakes but not poisonous ones. I would be terrified.....but I learned in Australia to stand real still and let a venemous snake slide on by.

There is a fascinating book in these tales!

If you aren't up to carrying through all the way to publishing, I'd be surprised if you couldn't find a member of the family who would love to see it through with you!

All of this is so interesting. You are so good at writing it to be so real as if it is happening.

It is quite interesting Taps, and the sad thing is not many will remember the times when things were so different. I suspect those who can trace their family history back to those days, feel rather proud of their ancestry.

I love these posts - especially the bits about the 5 civilized tribes, and

the way folks used to hide their family link to the native tribes. Same thing happened in my mom's family - to look at her you'd see it in her face, the cheekbones, the nose, the deep-set dark eyes, but nobody ever mentioned a link. By the time I was in high school, early 1950s, it was taught that all the tribal cultures had been assimilated into the Euro-based ones.  But the originals are adaptive, creative, flexible - they sent their kids to universities, the kids became anthropoloists, and more is known and taught these days - although there are few, if any native speakers. What a loss to us, the art, the traditions, the philosophy. Keep it going, Taps!

TAPS

What a story! And of course I took a trip to Wapanucka, which hasn't grown much since those days...
