Laughing...I would be terrified. How sheltered life is today for me anyway. I never did like a fire and brimstone serman though so maybe the cow pokes didn't either.

Perhaps the ladies were showing a bit of bravado. They were wild times. I used to crave vinegar when we had fish or the like, but mother only allowed a wee drop saying it dried the blood.

Vinegar pie was one of my favorites when I was a child, of course made by my Grandma Ollie's recipe.  There are recipes for vinegar pie on the internet, but Grandma's was special.
