I also, would have had a month's mind to join the pretty young lady. It sounds a

little bit familiar--vague at best.

That sounds like a term that ought to be brought back.

Nautikos

I own Samuel Pepys diary, my dad read it regularly and I enjoy it now and then as well. Great post.

Like Pat_B says, my mother always said "a month of Sundays" but I don't remember a "month's mind".  I remember reading Mr. Pepys somewhere along the line, but it's been a long time.

When you came up with "month's mind" the term "month of Sundays"

came first to mind. Then I read the description - and thought the word "cogitation," which is a bit similar - long thought on a certain matter. Month's mind might also - in the context of Pepey's writing about the Dutch woman - mean temptation.  Interesting.

He might have had a smack around the fizzog. I don't think he was such  a handsome guy as one might picture, rather portly perchance. Never heard of the saying Naut, but then I don't understand the way of Dutch dressing. Unless it means going dutch IE. Sharing.
