I've never seen a rooster held love. She has a real life way with chickens like Elly May on television.

Perhaps the little dog had a streak of jealousy. If Abbey was cuddling her pet the ugly little instinct raised its head. It is traumatic for a child and not only that to think the deed was done by the pet dog.

What a sad story. She is a beautiful child and so is Darling. She has had some trouble with the chicken raising from the get go. I hope it all will get better. I know she will love the little sister but she will miss her baby doll hen.

That's very sad! Abby looks so cute with her Little Darling, and now this...But kids are resilient, and I'm sure her family is helping her getting over this loss...

I've just read something about how marvelously individual chickens can be.
Maybe she can find another chicken friend. Not replacing, but continuing.

The best-laid plans.... So sad, but part of growing up, I'm afraid.

Oh what a sad sad ending....I am sorry about how it ended. Tough lessons little kids have to learn sometimes and try as we might, we can't always protect them.
