I support your efforts but be careful. From what you say it sounds like he is ashamed of his son and everything you tell others I feel is making him feel shame as well. It's enough you are doing what you are doing....He now knows but I think he would prefer that not everybody else knows as well...

what a mess love and the anger is so unlike you that I know it is righteous anger and if even his Grandmother believes her Grandson and his woman are a waste of space then you have been suffering very much. What a tragedy when you and Rick have been so happy in your love nest, and how wonderful his Mother must be.
