I guess I'm simply very fortunate - I don't seem to have any food allergies at all, although there are things I won't eat because I simply don't like them, LOL...But I guess it was useful to carry out this little experiment - the effects did drive home the point, LOL...

I played around with the gluten-free thing over a yr ago as part of a whole healthy eating plan that included giving up several things and definitely benefited...but quit when I went to work and lived in hotels and worked these insane hours - I just wasn't committed enough.  Since, I've been kind of on/off.  Then, like you, I started having issues....in the last month, I've had one's almost identical to what you describe and have had a sonogram, endoscopy, and just had an MRI of my liver and I don't know what else.  I'm better from quadrupling my -no longer OTC-reflux med....but there is definitely something going on and I know it is definitely diet influenced - I'm just waiting to rule out anything else before I launch whole-heartedly into a food plan....because I am NOT going to feel like I felt for the rest of my life!.............and I'm very glad you are on the mend.

Are you gluten intolerant?  My sister can't eat bread without spending the rest of the day in bed

I guess you have your answer. I have cut back on so many things because of my reflux...pity I have replaced them with other stuff!!!!

I think it must be something we must be careful of as we age Pat. Remember when we used to scrunch green apples and love sugared dough-nuts. Tear the crust off of new  bread and gulp down fizzy lemonade. Anyway your experiment worked, I would not try it again.
