You call the melting pot of the world vanilla?! I guess it is so true that familiarity breeds contempt of sorts.....some of us get so bored with the "mundane" (accidental pun I simply could not resist!) we always see the grass as greener; it's just part of the human condition, I suppose. That said, books about other cultures, other times, anything are always fascinating.

i am not sure that any of the World is Vanilla or perhaps I have seen too much. Travelled and read too much and Nursing. My childhood and young years were vanilla for sure, so different to yours but once AI grew up I have always taken the rough lane to walk.

That's one of the reasons I love to travel so much. I see so much more outside of my culture and even my comfort zone. It opens me to infinite possibilities in my life and writing

You, vanilla?
Not in a million years! Vanilla was raised in a nice suburb in a school system that is mostly Euro-American, in a two-parent household, everything just fine. Vanilla is never having to develop depths or learn resilience or patience the hard way. Sweet, uncomplicated life! No way your life has ever been vanilla!
I'm thinking maybe Rocky Road--vanilla but with sudden extra sweetness in spots, and quite a few nuts scattered throughout.
