Re: Nautikos
Never allow your homework to be disrupted by conversations with friends, no matter how dear, LOL...And the topic of this whole 'cooperation' business would fill books, I'm sure...

I really do love this class…..so much so that I actually did homework. I tried to write a comment last night, twice. Lost the first one through an accidental touch on the keyboard after about three paragraphs…started again and gave up when I got in a deep conversation with a dear friend and had to go to bed to get any sleep. So, then I stayed late to work today and just wrote a dang post on the subject myself!LOL! See, Professor….you are an inspiring teacher! But, here I will just say that I don’t think WE agreed that neither humans nor computers would arrive at universally common goals….that’s YOUR agreement with yourself!LOL!
Hawking says that during WWII there was an agreement between the Brits and the Germans that they wouldn’t bomb one another’s great universities – I don’t know if that is true, but he believes it was so. I’ve seen all kinds of cooperation in times of catastrophe and so have you on television at least. If we have famine, drought all over the earth, etc., I do believe that there will be a commonality of purpose across the planet that will force most humans to cooperate – but maybe I’ve seen certain movies too often!
I just don’t have a hard time believing that when it gets down to the nitty gritty….I mean really down, most humans will do what they have to do to survive and if that means bonding together – and humans are clan animals are they not? – that is what they will do. And if the smartest way is to align with AI to get the hell off this planet….which AI would hopefully be able to figure out how to do, I hope my great-great-great’s are smart enough to do it. OK….that’s my two cents here....I told you, I have more to say (as usual).

Yes I agree Naut, I would rather argue with a computer than I would with you. It is like doing ones tax on-line the computer is too honest. Not that I mean you are not, but you can improvise whereas ......

I'm going to have to muse on this one - especially since Bandit is lying in front of my computer screen and trying to take over my keyboard....

Some one is going to have to have a good understanding of computers to give a
logical answer. But they're not living, we created them...programed them.... For this
to happen, it would seem that it would have to be an accident or sabotage.

Hawkins has lost his own humanity and has already move beyond the human race as we know it, his intelligence is already artificial

I am with Pat. Switch the damn thing off. Tell it to erase it's memory, take a jackhammer to it, throw it in the Snow or Nuke it. Meet you in the pub for a drink old chap.

I'm not worried. Someone will pull a plug and that'll be that.
