My sons went to a private school after 5th grade.  There were no uniforms but there was definitely an enforced dress code.

I never had to where them. Even the year and a half I attended a private school. But

many of my friends and family that attended private schools had to.

how things changed. My Boarding school both boarders and day girls had to wear uniform and it was very strictly adhered to and discipline was sharp and uncomfortable if one didn't stick tightly to the rules. Those old maid mistresses had sharp nasty tongues.

For some years I attended a boarding school where uniforms where required for much of the day - I think the advantages outweighed the disadvantages...

FSI - to uni-form or not.  I was raised mostly in Parochial schools so I wore the classic plaid or navy uniforms.  I am not opposed to either, however, I find that uniforms do have a tendency to cut down on peer pressure as far as designer this and that maybe others cannot afford.
