Lots of fun comments here that have been added to your interesting post. I love contemplating this stuff. Too bad I'll be Resting In Peace by the time any of that might happen.

I think humanity will all be replaced by robots -
but, I'm all ears for now dear Naut.

Of course no one knows, but I truly suspect that this civilization will be wiped out like others before us not in a computers lifetime maybe and living on other planets will not be so rosy. Perhaps we are in one of the good times, we must programme future robots to self destruct if they have idea of grandeur.

My favorite scientist observation of all time is that of Neil DeGrasse
Tyson - when he pointed out that each and every one of us is made up of the essential stardust of the universe - that parts of us are millions, maybe billions of years old. I'm not worried about computers taking over - doesn't seem to me even the most magical of them could exceed humanity's potential for spite, destruction or glorious imaginings.

Not really all that different for the future then - we'll still be managed by the elite few.....
. Interesting posts, Naut!

I just love your science classes....they are so interesting. I'm still thinking about all of this...but not today or tonight so much. I've been sleeping, reading outside of Blogit, trying to wear off some anesthesia I had earlier. But, quite honestly, I don't know if that will make much difference. This is a fascinating subject and, honestly, when I think of all the things that just 10 - 20 - 30 years ago would have seemed in that realm that I think you are thinking implausible, impossible, etc. as you assign Hawkings' predictions now.....this is why I simply rarely find my mouth able to say, "yes, that's crazy...or, that can't happen because this and that". It seems my greatest faith is in the impossible, you see. That said, you always present compelling and well-stated arguments, so I am interested to see what you have for us in classes to come.

I'll stick with my last comment on this subject. Being confident Hawking's forecasts
will not come true. But very interesting subject. Looking forward to the next one. I'm
just trying to retain this.

I feel that your speculation that Hawking is looking at the elites and their goals makes sense.
I also remember Hawking saying that for the human race to survive, we need to colonize other planets.

A good read and I find no argument with your specualtions. Ina sense Computers already rule much of our social behaviour but we are still in control of for how much of the day that happens. we can always switch off, pull the plug etc.
