Good grief! Would you have hesitated at the time he wrote them? If you are truly wrestling with your conscience , I should say that is the question. I wouldn't hesitate, personally; he was your baby boy when he wrote them...they belonged to you, too.

Oh, by all means - do read it! If you feel really reluctant and think you might be 'nosing in' wher you have no business, you can always ask him, though I think he might find that a little silly! Do read it, and you might even finds things you'd like to share with us...

Oh just read it. I would not be able to help myself. Then ask him if it is OK if you read it. If he says NO...then
if he says yes then that's even better but I would have to read it. I could not help myself. A visit back into one of my son's childhoods...I would have to.

Ask him if it's all right to read them.
This could be your only chance, and if he doesn't mind or even wants you to read them, it would be a shame to make the wrong assumptions.
