I have nothing but admiration for women who know their pregnancies will end by being cut open...

What a beautiful photo! And a beautiful name for the new baby girl....congratulations!  As to discipline....I think it is usually best tailored to the individual child but think the important thing is that a child grow up clearly understanding that good behavior is just to be expected and not something deserving of special note, but that there are rewards for extra effort (and most people have individual definitions of what floats their boat so smart parents discover the best reward for each child)...and that there are consequences for bad behavior and not following rules - if a swat on the butt does that at two, fine; but, realistically, it probably won't work too much past five.

Yes Abby is right pity she won't lay eggs, but one can't have everything. One of Abby with the chickens when you get one.

That is so lovely. It made me think when I came home from the hospital with my baby girl the younger of my two boys was so looking forward to someone to play with. He saw her and immediately said 'just swallow her back, and get one that can play'. He will love he will lover her so much soon, mine did. sweet photo.

Another baby on the way, I see...When my sister was born, I barely remember it, so I am not sure how I felt...I like to focus on the positive as well.

I only watch from the distant sidelines these days, but you've got to

admire the moms and dads who are really trying to raise decent human beings, no matter what technique.  I grew up determined to be nothing like my mother, but ended up yelling at my kids at times anyway. I was lucky - good material to work with.

What a gorgeous name for the baby...

Congratulations to all - God bless. Beautiful family.

As far as discipline - I'm not a disciplinarian - nor is my husband.  We did practice Praise for the good and not to focus too long on bad however, that being said --- time out for one of our children proved to be quite stressful for us more than him and well, it works the Praise and all but, for some children with strong wills, I truly hope the best for a family in this situation. CE

Re: WileyJohn

If you are referring to me there, it is more like great-great-auntie standing in for great-grandma who passed away three years ago.  But, I'll take them all under my wing when I get the chance.

Well done Mummy and and welcome to a new wee girlie in your ever growing family.

I am so glad that i am not involved with any more child rearing; for better or worse I did my best. I made mistakes and I saw my children make mistakes. Perhaps it is all part of learning to cope in a hostile world.
